How Long Does It Take to Get an Outdoor Living Project Started?
- Consultation
- Design & Selections
- Permits
- Scheduling
- On-Site Construction
- Final Walkthrough
The short answer
Often longer than homeowners expect. A straightforward deck may take roughly a month or more to work through design and project preparation before permitting, while a custom pavilion, covered deck, porch, or multi-part outdoor living project can require several months of planning. Permit review and scheduling add time beyond that.
Planning is not construction
There are two separate timelines: (1) planning, design, approvals, and scheduling; and (2) physical construction at your home. Your project may have been underway administratively for months even though our crew has only been on-site for a few weeks. The time spent developing drawings or waiting for approvals is not the same as the construction duration.
What happens before we build?
After moving forward, we may need additional field measurements, photographs, architectural drawings, structural engineering, material selections, revisions, zoning review, and permit submissions. We also coordinate materials and place approved work into our production schedule.
What should you do?
Contact us well before your ideal completion date, especially for a project you hope to enjoy during a particular season. We will explain the steps and provide our best current scheduling outlook, but an exact construction start date cannot be guaranteed before the necessary approvals and preparation are complete.
